Spaceheater Safety Checklist

Remember that 3-foot safety zone. Keep space heater at least 3 feet away from furniture, curtains, and any other objects.

2.

Always turn off heaters. Turn off space heaters when you are not in the room or when you go to sleep.

3.

Avoid extention cords. If you must use one, make sure you choose an extension cord of the right wire gauge size and type for your heaters.

4. Keep children and pets away. Some heaters have very hot surfaces. Children should not be permitted to either adjust the controls or move the heater.
5. Do not hide cords under rugs or carpets. Placing anything on top of the cord could cause the cord to overheat, and can cause fire.
6. Test smoke alarms & carbon monoxide detectors. These should be in several locaitons of the home ensuring that no matter where a family member is they can hear the alarm.
